About This Page

Bench Coach is a sports analytics service — we do not accept wagers. If the analysis leads you to consider placing wagers at third-party sportsbooks, we encourage you to do so within limits that protect your wellbeing. This page exists because we believe responsible gaming resources should be easy to find, not buried.

Signs of Problem Gambling

Gambling should be entertainment, not a source of financial stress or emotional harm. Signs of problem gambling may include:

  • Betting more than you can afford to lose
  • Chasing losses with larger wagers
  • Lying about time or money spent on betting
  • Neglecting work, relationships, or responsibilities due to gambling
  • Feeling restless or irritable when not gambling
  • Gambling to escape stress or difficult emotions

If any of these resonate, help is available.

Self-Exclusion

Most US regulated sportsbooks offer self-exclusion programs that prevent you from accessing betting services for a set period (often 6 months, 1 year, or longer). Self-exclusion is voluntary, confidential, and free.

To self-exclude:

  • Contact the sportsbook directly — DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, and others provide self-exclusion tools in account settings
  • Most US states with legal sports betting maintain a state-level self-exclusion list that applies across all licensed operators
  • NCPG self-exclusion directory

Once you self-exclude, it cannot easily be reversed before the exclusion period ends. This is by design — self-exclusion works because it is durable.

Tools to Stay in Control

Most regulated US sportsbooks offer responsible-gaming tools you can set on your account:

  • Deposit limits (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • Spending limits (total wagered per period)
  • Time limits (session length, total daily play time)
  • Cool-off periods (temporary account suspensions)
  • Reality checks (on-screen reminders of time and money spent)

These tools are in your account settings at DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, and other regulated books. We recommend setting them proactively, not after a problem develops.

For Family and Friends

Problem gambling affects families, not just the gambler. You are not alone. Gam-Anon is a support organization for families: gam-anon.org. The NCPG helpline (1-800-GAMBLER) is also available for family members, not just gamblers.
